Precision livestock farming for Sardinian cattle supply chains: from capital to knowledge intensive.
Lead partner: Società per la Bonifica dei Terreni Ferraresi e per Imprese Agricole S.p.A. – Società Agricola, operational headquarters in Marrubiu (OR) – Application no. 14250005635, Measure 16.1 PSR Sardinia, Focus Area 3°, Project duration: 05/12/2023 – 04/12/2025, Approved funding: €497,396.00, Scientific and technical coordinator: Prof. Pier Paolo Roggero – University of Sassari
The project addresses the following objectives in a comprehensive and integrated manner:
a) Implementation of precision farming to improve the production and utilisation of on-farm forage during reproduction and fattening phases, through the development of a DSS capable of conducting site-specific assessments of forage mixtures and optimising the quality and quantity of yields by identifying the ideal mowing time.
b) Implementation of precision feeding to reduce calf production costs both during the reproduction phase and the fattening stage.
c) Implementation of precision livestock farming to increase productivity in the cow-calf supply chain and improve animal welfare.
d) Development of a cloud-based platform for inputting farm data, expert data analysis and user-friendly feedback through simple indicators provided to farmers to support the improvement of productive performance.
e) Implementation of supply chain traceability and tracking.
f) Assessment of improvements across the entire supply chain in terms of carbon impact (with the goal of a carbon-free supply chain) and nitrogen impact (with the goal of a circular nitrogen economy supply chain).
