Fileni’s Agricultural Supply Chain Transformed by Digital Innovation: strategic collaboration with Diagram

  • Fileni pioneers data management to tackle sustainability challenges
  • 150 farms involved in the first phase, with expansion to 600 within a year

Jolanda di Savoia (Fe), 19 march 2025 –

– A strategic agreement between Diagram and Fileni Alimentare, a leader in the Italian poultry sector, marks the beginning of a new era in the management of the agricultural supply chain, starting with the organic sector. The goal is to implement an advanced digital platform that will transform agricultural processes through the use of cloud technologies, mobile apps, and decision support systems (DSS), making agricultural operations more efficient and interconnected with the supply chain leader.

In the initial phase, the project will involve the first 150 organic farms in the Fileni supply chain, expanding to 600 within a year.

Thanks to this agreement, Fileni will be able to manage all agricultural operations through an integrated cloud system, enabling real-time monitoring of farming activities, production management, and digital tracking of operations via tools such as a digital farm journal and traceability of phytosanitary treatments. Additionally, the system will enable digital self-monitoring of organic farming practices and will process agro-weather and satellite data. Integrating information from physical weather stations, virtual datasets, and satellite imagery (NDVI) will optimize irrigation and crop protection operations.

A particularly relevant aspect for sustainability is access to the ProFitosan database, essential for monitoring the use of pesticides and fertilizers.

This way, Fileni will be able to precisely monitor the entire agricultural supply chain, ensuring the quality of the products used in farming operations and taking a fundamental step forward toward greater traceability and sustainability.

Roberto Mancini, CEO of Diagram, stated:
“This solution will allow Fileni to monitor all the farms in its supply chain, reducing the risk of non-compliance and improving the efficiency of the entire system. This is just the first step toward an efficient and interconnected supply chain.”

Diagram’s approach is based on the principle that “more data integration leads to greater knowledge.” By incorporating advanced hardware components, Diagram’s agritech solutions will provide reliable and precise DSS tools tailored to daily activities. Detection tools such as humidity sensors, camera traps, weather sensors, and irrigation and crop protection sensors will help Fileni make its production process more efficient, sustainable, and traceable.

Every phase of agricultural operations—from land preparation and sowing to fertilization and harvest—will become more efficient, ensuring that the right action is taken at the right time and in the right place. A key component is the Farmer’s Digital Journal (Quaderno di Campagna, or QdA), which serves as the foundation of all services and allows for real-time management of complex scenarios, with automatic checks on product label restrictions, fertilizer regulations, and compliance protocols. It also integrates technical decision support for irrigation, crop protection, and fertilization planning.

With this project, Fileni aims to establish itself as a leader in the Italian agri-tech landscape, turning big data into sustainable farming practices while maintaining the trust of its partner farmers.

Massimo Fileni, Vice President of Fileni Alimentare S.p.A., emphasized:
“This digitization project will start with our organic supply chain in 2025, involving around 150 farms, and is set to expand to over 600 organic farms within the next year. Our partner farmers will be able to use the platform to monitor crop development, assess the correct application of pesticides and fertilizers, and monitor fungal diseases and water stress to intervene in a timely manner.”

He added:
“Thanks also to our involvement in Arca Benefit, Fileni has made agricultural innovation and regenerative organic farming one of its key strengths. This major step forward in digitalization allows us to measure in the field the benefits of this technique, aimed at countering and mitigating the effects of climate change and hydrogeological instability.”

Diagram was established in 2024, following the transformation of Ibf Servizi, a leading group in precision agriculture solutions, after its acquisition by the Nextalia fund. Thanks to a focused M&A strategy and strong commercial development, the company quickly became a leader in Italy and Europe in providing precision agriculture services and developing farm management software. On December 21, 2024, the official signing—subject to the approvals required by Italian and European regulations prior to finalization—was completed between Nextalia and BF, the current shareholders of the Diagram Group, and CDP Equity and Trilantic Europe, who, together with BF as a reinvesting party, will proceed with the acquisition of 100% of the group’s shares. As a leading provider of precision agriculture services, technological solutions, and professional software applications for the agricultural sector, Diagram serves a client portfolio spanning over 3 million hectares in Italy and more than 500,000 hectares internationally. The company employs around 1,000 people, including both staff and collaborators, across multiple locations in Italy and the United Kingdom.
